This month's guest writer is the amazing Ghizlane from GETAFUCKINGBRAIN and the article is about a letter a mother wrote for her daughter (and I personally love it!). Thanks again Ghizlane =)
My dearest
Norah,
If I was a
man I wouldn't be standing where I am, I'd be in bed with a woman as beautiful
as me. If I was a child I wouldn't be so frustrated, I'd be playing carelessly with
a doll as beautiful as me.
But I'm not
a child nor a man, I am a lady. And as a lady, it is necessary for me to go
through this moment every morning ; to stand in front of my closet and
hesitate infinitely whether today will be a casual day or a classy one, whether
I should wear the blue shirt or the black dress. But if there's one thing I'm
sure of, it's that today and every day 'till the end of days, I must look my
best.
Not to get
the attention, I can get attention even in a trash bag. But I enjoy every
minute of the pain heels cause me, I like every second of the diet I'm on, I
love every moment I check my makeup on, I adore every time I look at a mirror
and I feel an incredible satisfaction. The satisfaction of feeling beautiful.
The same satisfaction I get when a woman asks me where I bought my shoes from.
And it's not
about impressing those women or even men, it's not about showing off my money
or style. It's about being exactly what I wanna be: beautiful, which not only
increases my confidence but also expresses my very unique identity.
Whether you
would like to admit it or not, your appearance is part of your identity. People
do not remember you for who you really are but for what you look like. You'll
never hear someone asking you “Do you know who that smart, independent woman
is?” but you will hear people asking “Do you know who that blonde woman in a
red dress with the diamond necklace is?” all the time. And I want you to be
that blonde woman in a red dress with the diamond necklace -although I wouldn't
recommend diamonds before your thirties.
If I was a
man I wouldn't be standing where I am, I'd be in bed with a woman as beautiful
as me. If I was a child I wouldn't be so frustrated, I'd be playing carelessly
with a doll as beautiful as me.
But I'm not
a man nor child. I'm a lady, and so are you. And as a lady I feel the need to
tell you this, my dear daughter. You can pretend not to care what people think
about you but I know you do. We all do. We live with the people, as dumb as
they can be, as wrong as they can be, we live with them and we will die with
them. And people will always pay attention to your appearance, therefore do not
neglect it.
But I want
you to keep in mind that you are not your clothes, you are not your
jewelries, this is what people see in you but it's not what you truly are.
Never forget that there will always be people who know who you really are and
will love you for it, like me.
I will always love you no
matter
what you put on,
Your mother.

I enjoyed this article "My dearest Norah". It makes beauty sound so attractive and sensible cause i've always considered this subject to be so trivial. I was listening to a song when i read it, and it was soooo appropriate, so inspirational. (https://soundcloud.com/jwg-2/moroccan-dreams).
